The Best Online-Only Shooters You Should Be Playing: Part One

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, or so the saying goes. There’s definitely something to be said for spending some time doing something that you love. For literally millions of people out there, that means putting some hours in on some of the best online-only shooter games out there.

Counter-Strike

Considered one of the most influential first person shooters, Counter-Strike is an objective-based multiplayer first-person shooter game. You play as a member of either a terrorist or a counter-terrorist team. Your performance determines your rewards (in-game currency) which you can use to upgrade your weapons. Counter-Strike has both a main series and spin-offs, so if you love this game, there’s plenty of games to keep you busy.

Destiny

Developed by Bungie, Destiny is another online-only multiplayer first-person shooter game. It’s set in a science fantasy setting where you take on the role of a Guardian. Guardians use Light to protect the world’s last safe city from various alien races. You can opt for PvE or PvP gameplay. As with many other games of this sort, there are many weapon options with different considerations you should know about. Part of the fun will be getting to know which weapons fit your playstyle and work with your build.

Valorant

Valorant is Riot Games’ first-person shooter. It’s newer than Counter-Strike and Destiny (practically a baby in comparison), but no less fun to play for it. This offering by the League of Legends developer is a team-based first-person hero shooter game. Two teams of five players square off against each other, one assigned to be the attacking team, and the other assigned to be the defending team. You choose one of 11 different characters, called agents, to play. Each agent has unique abilities, which, in combination with the assortment of weapons you can choose to purchase, allows you to create your own playstyle and build. There isn’t much of a story that goes with this game, but that doesn’t stop it from being both fun and challenging to play.

Whether you play online-only shooter games because you just want to have fun or because you earn money by streaming as you play, it never hurts to check out other games from time to time. If you aren’t already playing Counter-Strike, Destiny, or Valorant, now is a good time to check them out. And if it’s been a while, log back in and give it another go. You may start to remember why you liked it to begin with.
