Draxis Comic Review: Runaways #1

Hey there Draxisweb fans and friends! Sorry things are late this week, but we did have a huge Hurricane come through but as you see, it just makes us a little late and doesn’t stop us! Nor does it stop Vibranium Comics which is where this weeks (err last weeks really) two blogs come from. As always, the banner above goes to the facebook for Vibranium and the banner below goes to their website! Check them out on the web and go into the shop where they will take good care of you.

Soon, Marvel will be bringing to TV a show for one of their older hit comics known as the Runaways. The Runaways now has a new #1 comic out for what I was thinking might be a reboot seeing as the new show is coming out. However, we’re not getting a reboot or even a retcon out of this one we are simply getting a continuation. So for those that don’t know, let me catch you up to speed. The Runaways is a group of kids who do exactly what the title of the book says. These kids get together once a year with their families for “business,” but one year things change as the kids find out this business is actually that their parents are Super Villains! The kids, now afraid of their parents, band together and run away from home. They each find they have some sort of power or something that makes them unique, and eventually they start playing super hero. (This is not the first time something like this has happened in the Marvel line of comics..see Fallen Angels 4 issue series to see what I mean).

I know many of the characters from the Runaways story line as sine they went off comic a few years back they were split into several places. Nico ended up with A-Force, Hulkling and Wiccan ended up with the New Avengers and honestly those were the only real characters I knew. Out of them, only Nico has shown up in this new comic. This new comic is all about the guy who has the telepathic bond with a dinosaur and has time travel capabilities popping in on Nico with his supposedly dead girlfriend who is currently dying and wanting Nico to save her. Nico tries to use her magic in new ways to save Gert (because her staff does weird things if she tries to double up a spell). We find out that Gert isn’t dead because Dino boy, whose name I can’t remember, went back in time to save her from the thing that everyone thinks she is dead for. It seems however he snatched her out of there to bring her here to try and save her letting everyone think she has been dead for however long it has been. Yeah I know confusing just more wibbly wobbly timey whimey stuff yeah?

Anyway, since I was just a passing fan of a few Runaways characters and since I didn’t know how the old comic ended, I really couldn’t get into this one. I honestly don’t know how they will bring the rest of the team back or if they even will, but they were all shown on the cover so I am assuming they will -but how or why is beyond me at this point. Personally, I just couldn’t get into it. Now an old fan of the series would probably love this comic, but it really isn’t a good jumping on point for new fans.
