Welcome back everyone! This week we have both of our local comic shops giving us some new comics to enjoy and review for your pleasure. This first comic comes to us from Vibranium Comics and Games and is yet another crossover comic. This time the crossover is from DC comics and Archie Comics. Before we go and get started, let me start this off by saying I normally do NOT like crossovers, but it really all depends on what’s crossing over. Too many times you get a crossover like the one Sony keeps talking about where Men in Black crosses over with 21 Jump Street….it just makes no damn sense. Like Transformers and G.I. Joe…sure it may be fun but it makes no sense for them to be in the same place at the same time. So let’s jump right in and see where this one from Vibranium takes us. Always remember, that if you want to find out about upcoming events and such to click the banner above to go to Vibraniums facebook or click on the banner below to go to their website!
So the comic we have isn’t as threat filled as Archie vs Predator or Archie with Zombies or anything like that. No, the comic we have for you today is a Betty and Veronica title where our typical Archie twosome meet Harly Quinn and Ivy from the batman comics. At first when I saw this title, I had my reservations, I mean two super criminals in an Archie comic, really? However, as I started reading this I found that the comic’s writer really thought about how to do this right and how to stay faithful to each comic’s foundation. Most of this comic focuses on the Archie side of things, creating a good reason for Harley and Ivy to show up, in this case a new university being and mall area being built by Veronica’s dad on top of a swamp land. This of course, infuriates Harley and she has to go and stop the buildings from destroying such a diverse habitat.
I think my favorite part of this whole thing, which as I said mainly focused on the Archie side of things, is when Betty and Veronica shop last minute for costumes for a costume ball. Veronica tried to get a designer costume from Paris but ended up with a bird costume. So, with a contest of who wears things better coming up a tie Betty and Veronica choose to work together for once and go as an interesting duo. The theme of the party was heroes and villains. Betty and Veronica figured they would be the only couple there dressed as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, but as they walk into the place in their costumes they run into the real Harley and Ivy!
I’m actually curious as to what’s going to happen in the next comic. I have always been a fan of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy and when I was a kid I LOVED the Archie comics. This was a pleasant little mix up of both. The only thing I wasn’t used to is the updated more realistic drawing style for Archie that saw Midge going from cute mousy girl to a very sexy woman, but ya know, I think that would be an easy change to get used to. All in all, I enjoyed it and would certainly recommend it. If you have read it, let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
