The new year has come and with it has come a resurgence of the DWP going to WXW Wrestling shows in Minneola Florida! As you may remember if you read my last WXW article the end of the year was a frightening one for the WXW family. During the last show of the year that my wife and I were unable to attend one of our online friends and at the time member of WXW’s the Prophecy Wildman Rojas was injured. The injury could have been quite bad seeing as at the time he couldn’t feel his legs but thankfully it turned out to be just a pinched nerve or something like that and with some rehab and such he is now walking and holding his daughter and such. So while the last year ended on a bad note for them this year with the same person was starting out as a blessing for one of WXW’s own was alright and not paralyzed as was originally feared could have happened. So without further ado let’s get into the first WXW show of the year!

One thing that was a bit of a shame for this first show was that they had a very small crowd. This is understandable though considering it’s the first show of the year and a lot of people have spent big money over the holidays on trips or presents and such, but it is still a shame to see such a small crowd at such an awesome production as what the WXW does each and every time. So we got our usual front row seats and to start the night off Sean maluta came out to address the crowd. He spoke about the last show and how the members of WXW came together for Rojas and how hard a thing that was but he gave us the update about Rojas letting us know he was able to hold his little girl again and the crowd that was there loved the news. That’s the thing with the WXW, it’s a small promotion and I like that. We as fans get to know the wrestlers that we root for and if we are lucky we get to see them as friends both at the shows and online on facebook. So the moment that the news went out that the show in december was stopped because Rojas was hurt a lot of the WXW guys got their inboxes flooded by us fans asking for updates as to how Rojas was, I know as soon as David Clack IM’ed me the news on facebook I was sending Rojas get well messages and asking others to let me know how he was and I know many others did the same thing from fellow wrestlers all the way down to the lowly fans like us. In many ways we all are a family whether we just watch the shows or are in them we have all come together to form a tight knit community and it’s hard to see one of our own go down hurt. If Cena or one of the big names in WWE gets hurt to me it’s like “that’s a shame I hope he gets better.’ but when Rojas was hurt I was up all night worrying about him. So to receive the news from Maluta was a welcome thing indeed this night what was even more welcome was to see Rojas himself come to the ring though he did seem to have a bit of a limp. Rojas came out and spoke passionately about why he wrestled and how proud he was to have a family like the WXW one. He asked forgiveness from Maluta for the bad blood between them and for what he had done as part of the prophecy and at that point Alex G and Reggina from the Prophecy came out. Alex told Rojas he was weak. Rojas shouted him down saying the Prophecy was no real family and that he had been foolish to ever listen to them. Rojas asked where the Prophecy had been when he was hurt pointing out that the man he had wrestled against that night had been by his side yet the people who called themselves a family had just left him alone. Alex said Rojas was weak and that’s why he was hurt and that the Prophecy didn’t stop for weak people. Rojas was quick to shout them down and then challenge Alex G. Alex of course says that he still has the rest of the family and that Rojas has no one so Rojas asks his one time rival and one time friend maluta to forgive him and team with him on the 30th to go against the Prophecy. Sean wasn’t sure he could team with Rojas so soon after forgiving him for things, trust after all doesn’t come easily however after some prompting from the fans Sean agreed to assist ROjas in bumping the Prophecy down a peg or two. Considering that Nathan Vain is out for who knows how long and we haven’t seen Ushaka for a while we have a small Prophecy at the moment and that can easily work in Rojas and Maluta’s favor. So we’ll see if Rojas is on the up and up about going against the Prophecy when we see them on the 30th!

Up next we got into the matches for the night starting off with PRS squaring off with birthday boy Sweet Johnny Velvet. As usual Johnny was all energy and came out to a cheering crowd. He really is one of the favorites in the WXW nation and when you see his energy and enthusiasm and how he reacts with the crowd at intermission and such it’s no wonder he is so loved here. As usual Johnny put on a great match with PRS. PRS slowed things down several times with some submission attempts but Johnny was able to get out of them and get the tempo back up to where he likes it the most. After a short while and a lot of cheers for Sweet, Johnny ended up picking up the win.

Our next match saw Gold Standard, Kelly Iverson against a member of the Samoan Hawaiian Island Tribe, Ativalu. Just like the last time we saw him Iverson seemed a bit more interested in using his name as an insult to his opponent by pointing to himself and yelling “GOLD” and then pointing to his opponent and yelling “STANDARD”. Ati replied by yelling “GOLD..SHUTUP!” which actually got a good amount of laughs. Kelly Iverson has some good quick moved when he can get them off but in this case he was a bit outmatched by the ferocious attacks by Ativalu who seems to bulldoze over his opponents rather than be flashy. Ati does have a tendency of whipping his opponent into the corners and beating on them while yelling “Who sucks now?” I started to yell back “He does!” but I doubt he heard me. It didn’t take too very long till Ativalu found himself to be the winner of the match.

Next we saw a tag team match. First out we saw Vertigo and so I got kinda excited thinking we might see Raziel again as they had been pretty good together during the Samoan Cup Tag Team Tournament; however, what we got instead for a partner was the Singing Champion of the Universe Gariston Spears. Now we haven’t seen Gariston in a while and usually he comes in with his own title for being Champion of the Universe though this time he was minus his belt though he was still singing on his way to the ring. Their opponents were the team of Vinnie Mac and the Diamond Kid who are now calling themselves the New Breed. Vinnie and Kid went on the attack early before the bell rang but were swiftly dealt a few good blows getting them out of the ring. For the most part the New Breed were in firm control of this match. Vertigo got in some good shots when he was in but was hard pressed to keep up with the New Breed, Gariston got shot down pretty swiftly most of the time and ended up tossed to the outside of the ring right in front of us. While Gariston was out on the floor the New Breed took advantage of things and took out Vertigo and got the three count. Gariston got back in the ring and seemed to have words with Vertigo seeming to blame him for their loss when it seemed to me that Vertigo did all he could to hold on while Gariston was out on the outside.

The next match I thought was interesting in the fact that usually when someone has a championship belt they are the ones that get called out for matches, in this match however Hardcore champ Jorel Ganzy called out Big O. So we saw Big O and Jorel going at it for the Hardcore belt and my god was this an awesome match. It started out as a good match but very swiftly it seemed they both ended up outside and the weapons were introduced. We got to see chairs, baking pans, kendo sticks and even a bowling ball used in this match! Poor Big O may be singing soprano for a while thanks to that bowling ball but I think I have to remind everyone at this point if you are in a hard core match be careful what you bring into the ring as it could be used against you just as easily as you use it against someone else. Big O brought the bowling ball into play but it was Jorel that was able to use it to it’s fullest. This match was nice and brutal and at the end it left both the combatants and the ring lying in pieces. I think they forgot that when they are told to bring the house down in a match that it’s not to be taken literally. Jorel came away with the win in the match and picked up a dazed Big O to shake his hand in an awesome gesture of respect between them. When they left the ring though we ended up at intermission as the ring had broken during their match!

During intermission we had a heck of a show due to the wrestlers and staff coming out to repair the ring. During this time we also had ERA, Sugaa and Gariston Spears dancing and keeping the crowd entertained while the ring got ripped apart and then repaired. This isn’t something I get to see often so it was kind of cool seeing what goes on under the mat!

First up after the emergency ring repair was Devin once again going after Ace Radic this acetime for the championship belt. He proved in the beginning of December that he could hand with Ace in the ring by defeating Ace with his own finishing kick and so now he gets his chance at the belt. As usual Ace and Devin both kept the tempo of this match pretty fast and furious which si what I LOVE to see from the smaller guys. Between the two there were plenty of flips and flying and kicks and amazing moves. If one person missed the next one seemed to follow with the same move on a chance they could hit it where the first person didn’t. My wife and I are huge Ace fans so we were on the edges of our seats the whole time. Thankfully at the end Ace came out with the win this time but the match was very close, these guys have an almost mirror image on their styles which truly made it anyone’s match. I would LOVE to see these guys team up sometime as a tag team, they could be the next Rockers or Hardy Boys with their moves!

Next up we saw a returning Nick Nero trying to take the Prophecy down yet another notch by taking on the Prophet Alex G. We saw this show how weak the prophecy is getting as usually they come to the ring as a pack but this week both times Alex G showed up the only one with him at his side was Reggina. We haven’t seen Ushaka or Callisto lately at the shows and after the brawl during intermission Nathan Vain was suspended indefinitely, we have no clue where Reggie was this week either. While Alex tried to put up a fight he wasn’t much of a match for Nick Nero and it didn’t take long for Reggina to try and get involved. The Ref yelled at her as the crowd chanted “Toss her out!” at him. This gave Alex a small chance to come back but it didn’t last all that long. Finally Reggina got up on the apron and when Nick confronted her she threw powder in his face. She did this right in front of the ref so Alex was DQ’ed though Alex and Reggina used this to go and start beating up on a blinded Nick Nero but thankfully this ended swiftly as Sweet Johnny Velvet came out to save our hero Nick Nero. Sweets got Nero up after clearing the ring of what little bit of Prophecy was there and made sure Nero was alright.

We then got to the main event a mixed tag match with ERA and Raquel against Angelina Cruz and Jaxen Blade. At the start of the match we noticed that Raquel didn’t seem to be too enthusiastic about coming to the ring, she was frowning much of the time. Then Jaxen and Angelina came out and while Jaxen took off his coat Angelina and Raquel got into each other’s faces and you thought there may be blows coming before the bell. ERA and Jaxen then separate the two lovely ladies and got them to their own corners so the match could start. There was some good back and forth between ERA and Jaxen as usual and Angelina though now part of the match was still thinking like a manager and tripping up ERA if she could. Now one of the fun things that took place during this match is that usually in a mixed tag if a guy tags in the girl the girl is supposed to wait till the guy still in the ring goes and tags in the other girl and vice versa. However in this match we saw Jaxen tag in Angelina and she went right after ERA beating him down mercilessly. I have to say I was very impressed with Angelina, I mean usually you see her as the manager and she doesn’t get in the ring and compete in the women’s division however when she got in the ring against Raquel OMG did she light into that woman with a vengeance. She was slinging Raquel around by the head and body slamming her I was just amazed. At the end of the match Raquel called for a tag and ERA moved to give it to her but at the last moment she jumped from the mat and left the ringside area for the back leaving ERA to wonder what happened, well at least until his head got planted into the mat by Jaxen. Jaxen got the 3 count and he and Angelina celebrated while a bewildered ERA tried to shake off such a hard hit and figure out what the hell had happened.
