ATG Comic Review: Xmen Black Mystique

So we’re back with yet another of our surplus comic reviews…surplus in that they are extras we are handing to you instead of those the comic shops have picks out for us to do. By no means will these be of less than stellar comics because honestly, I am doing these reviews up because I enjoyed them so much. This time we have the X-Men Black comic for Mystique.

This comic is a pretty straightforward one. Mystique is traveling for a mission taking different forms as she goes. It was a lot of fun seeing the different forms she takes and how she goes and disguises herself for all eventualities as she travels cross country. Her mission, in this case, was to go and find a new mutant and release her from a lab where she was trapped. She ended up killing everyone in the lab through the use of poison because it seems one thing I never knew about Mystique is that she is immune to most poison. In this story, she is rescuing the mutant and then letting her go further off to help further the cause of chaos. How does this happen…. well it seems the mutant’s power is to poison people who come in contact with her. So she is setting the young girl up for a fall.

After this comic is another little short about Apocalypse. This is furthering his adventure in the world where he seems to be devolving. It’s an interesting little thing but honestly, I am not enjoying such short little things being split between the ends of several comics. The whole build your own figure thing may work with Marvel action figures but I think it falls a little flat with the stories.

All in all, I quite enjoyed the part about Mystique but then again she has always been one of my favorite characters from the X-Men stories. In many ways I used to always wish that I had her powers, in some ways I still do. I can see where if you become too many people it may fracture your mind and make it where you don’t know who you are, but at the same time I can also see you being able to create the perfect you from what you want to see which is what I would love to be able to do.

So now we want to hear from you!  Did you read this comic? What did you think?  Do you think having Mystique’s power would be a good one to have or not? Let us know in the comments!
