Draxis Comic Review: Star Wars Issue #38

Welcome back everyone. Each day brings us closer and closer to the big holidays of the year. I am sad to see Halloween go since it is my favorite Holiday but it does bring us closer and closer to spending time with friends and family and Christmas trees and fun decorations and brilliant light shows. First up though, we have Friendsgiving at Vibranium Comics and Games in Ocala Florida on the 19th of November (that’s this coming sunday). To check out the time for this event check out the Vibranium facebook page linked to the banner above. As always, the banner at the bottom will contain a link to their website.

This week we had Star Wars #38, which is now being written by Kieron Gillen. While I am a huge Star Wars fan, the comics are one thing I haven’t been keeping up with. Draxis Web was given this title due to the writer change that has been going on. I have to admit I quite enjoyed the overall story and I’m not just saying that because I’m a fan of Star Wars. I found it interesting as we saw Han, Leia, Luke and Chewie all back on the planet Jedah that we last saw being blown up by the Death Star in Rogue One. It seems in this new comic the Empire is back to excavate as much Kyber as it can from the ruins of the planet. We also see our intrepid heroes trying to find the rebels that Saw Gerrera used to run before he died in the Death Star attack. This may not be a very good choice for the group though.

My only problem is that since I have not been following this comic, I’m not sure when it takes place in the timeline. Luke has his lightsaber but when asked if he is a Jedi he answers “I’m trying to be.” So this makes me think it may come before Empire Strikes Back. Other than that, I had no problems with this book and quite enjoyed it. I loved the callbacks to the characters and places of Rogue One which is tied as one of my favorite Star Wars movies. I was on the line with the artwork style for this as well.

Have you read this comic?  If so, what are your thoughts?
